Find your BVN or NIN: the official ways
Forgot your Bank Verification Number or National Identification Number? Answer two quick questions and get the right steps: a USSD code you can tap to dial, your bank app, or the nearest office. This guide helps you find your own numbers only.

Check a number for typos
Paste a BVN or NIN you already have to confirm it is in the right format before you submit a form. This is a format check only. It runs on your device and does not confirm who the number belongs to.
Lifehampers is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, NIBSS, NIMC, the Central Bank of Nigeria or any bank or mobile network. This guide is general information about the official retrieval channels as at October 2026. The codes, fees and procedures are set by those organisations and can change, so confirm with your bank or NIMC if anything differs.
This guide only helps you find your own numbers through your bank, NIBSS or NIMC. It does not search any database, and anything you type stays on your device.

Why you cannot look up someone else’s BVN
Your BVN and NIN are protected personal data under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. Only licensed banks and verification providers can check them, and only with the person’s consent. Websites or agents offering to “search” anyone’s BVN from a name or NIN are a fraud risk.
For businesses: verify customers the right way
If you onboard customers, staff or agents, use a consent-based identity check through a licensed provider. See our identity verification (KYC) service.
Questions people often ask
Straight answers to the questions we hear most often.
How do I check my BVN on my phone?
Dial *565*0# from the phone number registered to your BVN. Your 11-digit BVN shows on screen. NIBSS charges a ₦20 service fee from your airtime. You can also find it in most bank apps under Profile or Account details.
How do I retrieve my NIN?
Dial *346# from the phone number you used at NIMC enrolment, choose NIN Retrieval and follow the prompts. You can also check your NIN slip or National ID card, or visit a NIMC enrolment centre.
What if I no longer have the SIM linked to my BVN?
Get a SIM replacement on the same number at your network’s service centre, or visit your bank with a valid ID. The bank can retrieve your BVN after a biometric check and update your phone number.
Can I find someone else’s BVN using their NIN, name or date of birth?
No. BVN records are held by NIBSS and can only be accessed by licensed institutions with the account holder’s consent. Anyone offering this is acting unlawfully or running a scam. Never share your BVN, NIN or OTP with them.
Is my BVN the same as my account number?
No. Your BVN is an 11-digit number linked to your fingerprints and used across all your bank accounts. Your account number (NUBAN) has 10 digits and belongs to one account.
Does this tool store the number I type?
No. The format checker runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to Lifehampers or anyone else.
Need to verify customers or staff?
Lifehampers sets up consent-based BVN, NIN and CAC verification for lenders, fintechs, estates, employers and agent networks, through licensed providers.
