How VAT Is Worked Out
To add VAT, multiply the price by 0.075 and add it on: ₦100,000 plus ₦7,500 VAT is ₦107,500. To remove VAT from a total, divide by 1.075: ₦107,500 divided by 1.075 is ₦100,000, so the VAT inside it is ₦7,500.
Who Must Charge VAT in 2026
From 1 January 2026, businesses with yearly turnover of ₦100 million or less and fixed assets up to ₦250 million are exempt from charging and filing VAT. Professional service firms are excluded from the exemption. Everyone above the threshold must register, charge 7.5% and file monthly returns.
