Margin vs Markup
Margin is profit divided by the selling price. Markup is profit divided by the cost. If you buy at ₦8,000 and sell at ₦12,000, your profit is ₦4,000, your markup is 50% and your margin is 33.3%.
Pricing for a Target Margin
To reach a target margin, divide your cost by one minus the margin. For a 30% margin on an item that costs ₦8,000, the price is ₦8,000 divided by 0.7, which is about ₦11,429.
