How MANCAP Works
MANCAP, the Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme, is SON's certification scheme for products made in Nigeria. It applies to locally manufactured goods covered by Nigerian Industrial Standards, and is generally required before those products are sold. Certification typically follows three steps:
Application and Documents
The manufacturer applies to SON with company and factory details, product information and evidence of its quality control.
Factory Inspection
SON inspects your production facility and quality control process to confirm you can consistently make conforming products.
Testing and Certificate
Product samples are tested against the relevant standard. When they pass, SON issues the MANCAP certificate and you can use the SON mark.
Keep It Valid
MANCAP certificates are issued for a fixed period and must be renewed, and SON can carry out surveillance visits to check that standards are maintained.

Who needs MANCAP?

They cover different things. NAFDAC regulates food, drugs, cosmetics and similar products, while SON covers quality and technical standards. Some products need both.
