Questions people often ask
Straight answers to the questions we hear most often.
Is ITF the same as tax clearance?
No. ITF is a separate payroll-based training levy administered by the Industrial Training Fund, not a tax clearance certificate from FIRS or state tax authorities.
What happens if I don't register or contribute on time?
Late payment can attract penalties or interest charges, and without a valid ITF Compliance Certificate, you generally can't bid on federal government contracts.
Do small businesses need to register?
Only if you have 5 or more employees, or fewer than 5 employees with annual turnover of ₦50 million or more, businesses below both thresholds are typically not required to contribute.
What does the contribution actually fund?
It supports ITF's training programmes and skill acquisition initiatives, and registered employers can access training programmes for their own staff in return.
How often do I need to pay?
Contributions are annual, due within the first quarter of each calendar year based on the prior year's payroll.
