Copyright Registration Agent in Nigeria
Lifehampers helps authors, musicians, filmmakers, designers and software developers register their works with the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), giving you an official certificate that makes ownership far easier to prove.

How Copyright Works in Nigeria
Copyright protects original literary, musical, artistic and audiovisual works, sound recordings and broadcasts, including software, which is treated as a literary work. Under the Copyright Act 2022, protection exists automatically once an original work is recorded in a tangible form. Registration with the NCC is optional, but it gives you something automatic protection does not: official evidence of ownership and its date.
Automatic Protection
You own copyright the moment you create an original work and record it. You do not need to register to have rights, but without evidence you may struggle to prove them.
NCC Registration
The Commission's online e-registration system records your work and issues a certificate, strong evidence of ownership in disputes, licensing deals and takedown requests.
Duration
For most works by an individual author, copyright lasts for the author's lifetime plus 70 years. Different terms apply to some categories, such as sound recordings and broadcasts.
What You Can Register
Books and articles, lyrics and music, sound recordings, films and videos, paintings, designs and photographs, and computer programs and apps.
How We Help
We prepare and submit your registration under the right category with the supporting copies, follow it through to certificate, and advise on licensing and protecting your work online.
Questions people often ask
Straight answers to the questions we hear most often.
Is copyright registration mandatory in Nigeria?
No. Copyright exists automatically once you create and record an original work. Registration is optional but recommended, because the certificate is official evidence of ownership.
Does copyright protect ideas?
No. Copyright protects the expression of an idea, such as the text, recording, design or code, not the idea itself.
Can I register software or an app?
Yes. Software is protected as a literary work, which covers your code and related materials but not the underlying idea or functionality.
How is copyright different from a trademark?
Copyright protects creative works like writing, music and art. A trademark protects brand identifiers like names, logos and slogans. See our trademark registration service.
How do I register a copyright?
Through the NCC's online e-registration system, with details of the work, its author and owner, and a copy of the work. Read our step-by-step copyright guide, or let us handle it for you.
